Faculty of Mechanical and Power Engineering

History of the Faculty

Year 1954 - establishment of the Faculty

The origins of the Faculty go back in time to 1945, when Departments were set up at the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. The Department of Machine Measurement, the Department of the Theory of Thermal Machines, the Department of Steam Boilers and the Department of Thermal Turbines and Compressors - all of them had crucial influence on shaping the profile of the Faculty. These faculties formed the Energetic Section of the Faculty of Mechanics, which separated itself from the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (1951/1952).

In the academic year 1951/1955 the Section transformed into an independent Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, which educated (as one of three faculties in Poland) specialists according to the needs of dynamically developing branch of energy production. Education was conducted in the frames of the field: Mechanical Engineering and Machine Building.

Within years the profile of education was extended with issues connected to process equipment and cryogenics (the 60’) as well as aerial engineering (2002/2003). Launching in the academic year 2003/2004 studies at the field of energetics (Resolution no. 57/04/2002-2005 of the Senate of WUST dated 19.12.2002) enabled proper arrangement of the structure of education.
Further changes were strictly connected to the implementation of the Bologna Process. In 2007 the first admission onto first level studies was pursued.
